Trace Your Ancestors - First Steps
Not just for beginners. Learn in a friendly, helpful atmosphere. No previous experience of family history research is required, just lots of enthusiasm. Also suitable for those of you with some experience who want to know more! 

This family history course covers research methods and using key records with samples of documents and case studies:
  • Where to start
  • Census records
  • Birth, marriage, death registration 
  • Parish registers
  • Wills, did your ancestor leave one?
  • First World War and other military records
  • Introduction to DNA for genealogy
Once you start you'll want to find out more!
Following the First Steps course, most people want to carry on developing their skills and gain a broader knowledge of records available.
The Next Steps course covers a variety of topics to enable you to discover more about your ancestors' lives:

  • Do your ancestors appear in poor records? 
  • Did they break the law? 
  • What if they were illegitimate?
  • Mapping your ancestors
  • Using archives/record offices
  • Reading old writing
