British Army Unit war Diaries 1914-1922 - Guide to the diaries held at The National Archives some more detailed than others with reports of daily operations. Sometimes they contain information about particular people but they are unit diaries, not personal diaries. Diaries from units in France and Belgium can be downloaded (£3.45)
Armed Forces Deaths - British Armed Forces deaths and burials can be searched on FindMyPast (subscription required). Certificates can then be ordered from GRO
findmypast.co.uk - Military records including index of war deaths from 1796 - WWI, WWII and Boer War. For naval records go to 'A-Z of record sets' and search Navy (need to subscribe annually or pay monthly but FREE access to FIndMyPast in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire City Libraries)
Ancestry.co.uk - British Army WWI service and pensions records, medal cards, records of Indian army, Royal Irish Constabulary, WWII newsreels (need to subscribe annually or pay monthly but FREE access to Ancestry in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire County Libraries)
Ancestry's Naval Records - UK, Naval Officer and Rating Service Records 1802-1919 (need to subscribe annually or pay monthly but FREE access to Ancestry in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire County Libraries)
cwgc.org - Commonwealth War Graves Commission, details of all personnel killed in WWI and WWII with location of graves and memorials
livesofthefirstworldwar.org - Imperial War Museum project to record the lives of all those from Britain and the Commonwealth who took part in the First World War whether they died as a result or survived. Search for people known to you and 'remember' them. You can add detail, photographs and link to documents you've found to help build the picture.
