Learn how to research your family history

If you're in Nottinghamshire, why not join one of my family history courses.

Trace Your Ancestors - Not just for beginners
Learn in a friendly, helpful atmosphere. No previous experience of family history research is required, just lots of enthusiasm. Also suitable for those of you with some experience who have discovered it's not as easy as it looks on tv!

The course covers researching and using key records:

  • Where to start
  • Census records
  • Birth, Marriage, Death registration
  • Parish Registers
  • Wills
  • Military records
  • Family Tree software

Click here for the Course Outline - pdf document (42kb) will open in new window.

10 week Next Steps course - following the success of the beginners course, most people want to carry on developing their skills. The Next Steps course explores a wider range of sources - trade directories; records of pauper ancestors; tracing black sheep and elusive ancestors such as 'unknown' fathers of illegitimate children. Next steps also includes a visit to a local archive.

Please note that basic computer skills are an advantage as the courses include use of Internet resources and software to organise and display your findings.
